Backrooms

A psychological drama in horror's clothing. The concept — the Backrooms as a physical manifestation of Clark's inability to accept his own failures — is compelling, but the film prioritises the metaphor over the scares. There are a couple of effective POV shots through flickering corridors, but it's never really frightening. The ending sees Pirate Clark kill Clark (his ego literally destroys him), while Mary is rescued by Async researchers only to find the Backrooms reshaping through her own trauma — a deformed copy of her sits silent in a replica interrogation room, suggesting the cycle starts anew. An interesting idea stretched thin. 4/10.
